令狐冲和余沧海狭路相逢，余沧海痛施杀手，令狐冲身负重伤。林平之也血性男儿挺身相救；“塞北明驼”木高峰也欲染指“辟邪剑谱”，救下林平之对其威逼利诱，想得到剑谱，戏弄于股掌之间。关键时刻“君子剑”岳不群赶到木高峰，悻悻而去。林平之欲投身华山派门下寻求庇护，岳不群却“欲擒先纵”不肯答应。 刘府张灯结彩刘正风准备举行金盆洗手仪式，众多英雄前来祝贺。而作为五岳剑派盟主——嵩山派却迟迟不见派人来，刘正风心里隐隐不安；而衡阳城中朔风卷地沙石飞扬，嵩山派来势汹汹杀气腾腾，包围了刘宅。奉五岳剑派盟主左冷禅之令的费彬前来制止刘正风退归江湖，诬陷刘正风勾结曲洋，施挑拔离间之计。一言不和，一时刘门子孙人头纷纷落地，惨不忍睹。各大门派之中人目睹惨变却无能为力。 遭此大劫刘正风心灰意懒正要拔剑自刎，受曲洋之托令狐冲挺身而上，以焦尾琴相示。刘正风紧抱焦尾琴精神一振，感慨零涕。这时几十名嵩山弟子持剑直指令狐冲和刘正风，二人一时二人身处险境，局势变得一发不可收拾。
