留置場内で、勾留された橘（駿河太郎）の変死体が発見される。体中からキノコのようなものが生え、まるでその姿は「冬虫夏草」のようだった！変わり果てた橘の姿にショックを受ける小比類巻（ディーン・フジオカ）は、「冬虫夏草」の謎、橘の死の真相を探るため、「キノコ博士」と呼ばれる天才菌学者・御門凛子（田中みな実）の元を訪れる。彼女はかつて、南極の氷床に眠る太古のキノコを復元させ、話題になった菌学者であった。しかし、御門は橘の遺体の写真を見るなり、ひどくうろたえた様子を見せ…。橘の死が受け入れられず、とりつかれたように捜査を進める小比類巻。手詰まりになるなか、御門からある衝撃的な事実が明かされる！
