Ogorčen, čangrizav i sarkastičan glumac Andy Millman (R. Gervais) prije pet godina je odustao od normalnog posla u nadi da će se proslaviti i obogatiti. Zasad još nije iskusio ulogu s tekstom, a kamoli šetnju crvenim tepihom prilikom primitka nagrade BAFTA-e. No i dalje je optimističan, dok mu druženje s prvoklasnim glumačkim imenima samo jača uvjerenje da ga tek posao-dva dijele od pravog uspjeha. Da bar njegov menadžer nije tako neopisivo beskoristan! Andyja i njegovu najbolju prijateljicu Maggie, također nepoznatu statisticu, obično se može naći u sobi za glumce kako ispijaju kavu, gunđaju o kolegama ili cendraju o svom životu. Ili se Andy ulizuje najnovijem producentu u nadi da će napokon dobiti ulogu s tekstom, dok se beznadno romantična Maggie opet zaljubljuje preko ušiju.
