I samband med flytten av en grupp Apacher till ett indianreservat i Arizona blir en amerikansk spejare, Sam Varner, förvånad över att hitta en vit kvinna, Sarah Carver, boende hos dem. När Sam får reda på att hon togs till fånga av en indian, Salvaje, tio år tidigare, försöker han eskortera Sarah och hennes son till sitt hem i New Mexico. Det står dock snart klart att Salvaje är dem på spåren.
