Сентябрь 1923 года. На водах курортного городка Лас Кальдас близ Овьедо заканчивается сезон, когда отдыхающие узнают о военном перевороте Примо де Риверы. Дочь управляющей санаторием Мариана пока ещё слишком мала, чтобы понять значение происходящих событий. Сейчас её больше заботят отношения со своей близкой подругой Ракель и красивым соседским мальчиком Мартином. Но впереди девочку ждут бурные события, которые ей суждено встретить вместе со страной, брошенной в пучину революций и путчей. Мариане предстоит пережить бурный роман с Мартином, навязчивую любовь хозяина санатория дона Эразмо, предательство собственной матери, безумие сестры, верность ушедшей воевать за Республику подруги и крушение идеалов.
