În 1943, locuitorii unui mic sat din Alpii francezi suferă nu numai de ocupanții germani, ci și de o fiară sălbatică care decimează turmele de oi noapte de noapte. Într-o zi, micul singur Sebastian întâlnește presupusul monstru, care se dovedește a fi un câine impunător, dar extrem de bun. Între Belle și băiat, așa cum îl numește cu afecțiune Sebastian, se dezvoltă o prietenie profundă , pe care nici măcar comunitatea furioasă din sat nu o poate întrerupe.
