Eeuwenlang bestaat er een geheim occult genootschap binnen de Kerk. Na een aantal mysterieuze sterfgevallen, gaat de jonge priester Alex Bernier op onderzoek uit. Hij komt op het spoor van de zogenaamde Sin Eater, een gevaarlijke en onsterfelijke figuur die als een soort God op aarde vergeving kan schenken aan de meest verdorven zondaars. De Sin Eater neemt alle zonden op zich waardoor het kwaad ongestraft blijft. In zijn zoektocht ontdekt Alex dat er een veel erger noodlot bestaat dan de Dood.
