Cathy Palmer es una joven inglesa que viaja a San Francisco con la intención de trabajar como modelo publicitaria. Allí conoce a Kenneth, un fotógrafo que no muestra demasiado interés por el trabajo. Tras seis meses de convivencia, decide abandonarlo, pero descubre que está embarazada. Tras meditarlo mucho, decide abortar. Cuando Kenneth se entera, sufre una terrible conmoción.
